Reverse Engineering
With our Reverse Engineering service, we help clients convert existing physical parts, 3D scans, or incomplete legacy drawings into accurate, enhanced CAD models and fully detailed manufacturing drawings. Whether you are improving an existing product, sourcing a replacement part, or digitising a design that predates modern CAD, our engineers rebuild it with precision and your guidance.
Many of our clients come to us without a CAD model or 2D drawing for an original part, only the physical component itself, a worn print, or an old hard-copy drawing. Through reverse engineering, we recreate that missing digital foundation so you can modify, improve, re-manufacture, or validate the part with confidence.
Our engineers combine 3D scan data, point cloud processing, and precise manual measurement with your design input and our own mechanical expertise, so the resulting model reflects both the original part's true geometry and any improvements you want built in.
Every reverse-engineered model goes through a mesh-to-solid deviation analysis against the original scan or part, so you can see exactly how closely the finished CAD model matches reality before it goes into production.
We provide three types of reverse engineering services to our clients:
- Scan 2D PDF to 3D Model & 2D Drawings
- Scanning Original Part to 3D Model & 2D Drawings
- Measuring Original Part to Create 3D Model & 2D Drawings
Our Reverse Engineering Process
Capture
We scan the physical part, or work from your existing scan data and legacy drawings, with high-precision capture.
Analyze
The scan is processed into a clean point cloud and mesh, and analysed against the part's expected geometry.
Model
We build accurate, parametric 3D CAD models from the mesh and validate the geometry against the original.
Deliver
You receive the CAD models, 2D drawings, and a deviation analysis report showing accuracy against the source part.
Case Study
Reverse Engineering
Client : From the automobile industry in the USA.
Problem : Client had only the physical part and a set of very old hard-copy drawings, with no CAD model available to support performance improvements.
Resolution : We reverse engineered the part by scanning and created the model and drawing through point cloud importing, mesh preparation and alignment, surface and solid extraction, complete sketching and solid modelling, mesh-to-solid deviation analysis, and a final manufacturing drawing. The final deviation analysis confirmed better than 98% surface accuracy against the original part, giving the client's team a reliable foundation for redesign.
